'Rabbit Hole' opens this week

Five 91���� students have parts in the CSC Theatre Program’s production of “Rabbit Hole,” a domestic tragic drama that centers on the accidental killing of a small child.

Watershed Team continues Chadron Creek study

Ten 91���� students and four professors continued their ongoing study of Chadron Creek’s resources Saturday, Nov. 7. At six sites along the creek, the Watershed Team collected data on range quality, water flow rate, invertebrates, chemical properties and bacteria. The team is in its fifth year of monitoring the sustainability of Chadron Creek’s natural resources.

Choral concert is Sunday

A wide variety of choral music will be presented during the 91���� Fall Choir Concert on Sunday, Nov. 8. The concert, which is open to the public free of charge, will be 3 p.m. at the Chadron Arts Center at the corner of Fourth and King streets.

Teahon named chairman of NSCS Board of Trustees

The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees selected Larry Teahon of Chadron as its 2009-10 chairman and Carter “Cap” Peterson as vice chairman. Teahon, who presided over his first NSCS Board meeting in September, succeeds past chair Bill Roskens of Omaha.

Doo-Wah Riders bringing high energy country

The next performance of the 91���� Galaxy Series will feature high energy country music with a Cajun twist. The Doo-Wah Riders will take the Memorial Hall stage Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

More than 40 people, including regional prosecutors and law enforcement officials, gathered at 91����’s Student Center on Tuesday to receive an update on recent legislation and cases in criminal law and procedures.

Gov. Heineman to speak at CSC Veterans Awareness Conference

In celebration of Salute to the Military Month, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman will address veterans issues at the 91���� Veterans Awareness Conference on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The event will be in the Student Center on the Chadron State campus. Topics to be covered include post-traumatic stress disorder, female veterans issues, benefits, substance abuse and family support.

Legislation and Law Conference scheduled at CSC

The 91���� Student Center will be the site of the Recent Legislation and Cases in Criminal Law and Procedures Conference on Tuesday Oct. 27.

World Food Day broadcast scheduled for Friday

A teleconference broadcast at 91���� and around the world will examine the burden of the the economic catastrophe on the world's poor and explore solutions to the problem.

Una Taylor recital is Oct. 24

Dr. Una Taylor, 91���� assistant professor of music, will present a vocal recital of French songs from the 19th and 20th centuries. The recital, which is open to the public free of charge, will be Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sandoz Center.

CSC, elementary students benefit from PE partnership

For the fourth straight year, 91���� students are gaining hands-on teaching skills by providing a physical education experience for students of a nearby rural elementary school.

High Plains Festival opens auditions for students

The 91���� music department is inviting high school students to try out for next semester’s High Plains Band and Choir Music Festival. Audition tapes for the festival must be postmarked by Nov. 16 to be considered.

First part of new student information system goes live

Students entering Chadron for fall 2010 are applying using the new Nebraska Student Information System. The new system, which has involved months of training for a number of CSC employees, was implemented at the end of September.

Wildlife professor chosen for leadership institute

Dr. Teresa Zimmerman, 91���� assistant professor, has been chosen by The Wildlife Society to attend its annual Leadership Institute. The event will be during the TWS Annual Conference in Montery, Calif., in September.

Patsy Cline story opening at Post Playhouse

The Post Playhouse at Fort Robinson State Park will open this season's production schedule Friday, June 5, with the story of a legendary country music singer. "Always ... Patsy Cline" will take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday.

Dr. Harry Holmberg dies at age 92

Dr. Harry E. Holmberg, longtime chairman of the Division of Fine Arts at 91����, died Wednesday afternoon at the Chadron Community Hospital following a brief illness. He was 92.

Senior tutors recognized

Eleven 91���� seniors were recognized during Ivy Day on Friday for meeting the requirements for national tutor certification from the College Reading and Learning Association. The minimum requirements include 10 hours of training and 25 hours of hands-on tutoring.

Thirty-nine 91���� students who have been studying science have been accepted to professional schools beginning this fall. The students were given recognition during the annual Health Professions Honors Banquet at the Country Kitchen Restaurant on Thursday.

Students find value in helping hurricane victims

Nearly 50 91���� students learned first hand during the recent spring break that helping others can be an exhilarating experience. Some of them even got to spend a little time on the beach, a favorite activity for numerous college students nationwide during the annual break from classes.
