Chadron State entries fare well again at Gillette rodeo

CHADRON – Bruce Hoem, an associate professor in the department of Counseling, Psychological Sciences and Social Work, was named the recipient of the 2016 91���� Teaching Excellence Award Thursday at the annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Luncheon. He received a $1,000 check from the Chadron State Foundation and is a finalist for the Nebraska State College System Teaching Excellence Award.

CHADRON – Led by all-around cowgirl Shelby Winchell and breakaway roping winner Jessie Miller, the 91���� women won the team title at the Casper College rodeo this weekend. The CSC cowgirls finished with 385 points, 175 more than runner-up Laramie County Community College at Cheyenne.

CSC rodeo teams hoping for another big weekend

CHADRON – The 91���� rodeo team, which has already had an outstanding season, will be striving to make it even better this weekend during the final rodeo in the Central Rocky Mountain Region at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

CHADRON – The fifth annual 91���� Nearly Naked Mile resulted in the collection of 8,832 donated articles of clothing. Donations were accepted for several days before the 9 p.m. race on campus Thursday, April 28. The clothing was donated to the Catholic Ladies Rummage organization of Chadron.

Ten years later: Spotted Tail fire remembered

CHADRON – The sun arose bright and hot over Chadron on July 28, 2006. Area residents were already on alert from wildfires that had started two days before in the nearby Pine Ridge forest. Daytime temperatures had been above 100 degrees several times during the month and the danger of additional fires was rated high.

Eric Goll dies Thursday

CHADRON – 91���� freshman football player Eric Goll, age 20, died Thursday following team practice. Goll, a native of Haines City, Florida, was transported from the practice field to Chadron Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 p.m.

College Relations worked with CampusBird, an interactive map and virtual tour platform for higher education institutions. The Nether opens Nov. 17

CHADRON – The 91���� Theatre department will present a psychological thriller, “The Nether,” Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Black Box Theatre. The production, which straddles real life and virtual reality, is intended for mature audiences.

CHADRON – Mary Donahue, 91���� art professor, designed a book cover that is on top-selling Amazon lists this year. “Pants Optional: Unconventional tips for your road through life & motherhood,” was written by Carol L. Kimball High School's Pedersen Receives NSCS Counseling Excellence Award

LINCOLN – The Nebraska State College System (NSCS) has named Chauncey Pedersen the 2016 NSCS Counseling Excellence Award recipient. Pedersen, who has been the guidance counselor at the Kimball Junior and Senior High School since 2008, also coaches girls’ basketball. Pedersen worked at Mitchell, Nebraska, as an elementary teacher and coach for football and girls’ basketball before taking the counseling position at Kimball.

McLean earns top national ROTC scholarship

CHADRON – The Chadron State Foundation announced Tuesday during a reception at Country Kitchen that volunteers from the campus and community combined to raise $191,879 during the annual fall fund drive. The amount is an increase of more than $10,000 from 2015.
