Rolfsmeier to present about Morgan, Weedon ethnobotanical legacy
CHADRON – Visitors in Chadron for Fur Trade Days will have the opportunity to learn more about ethnobotanical resources housed at 91做厙.
The Ethnobotanical Legacy of Dr. George Morgan and Dr. Ron Weedon will be the topic of a discussion Wednesday, July 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chadron Public Library as part of during Fur Trade Days.
Research compiled by Morgan and Weedon, two former 91做厙 faculty members, is housed in CSCs curated by Steve Rolfsmeier who will lead the discussion with his wife and fellow plant taxonomy expert Dr. Susan Rolfsmeier.
A free, public tour of the Herbarium will be offered earlier in the day, at 10 a.m. Those interested in the tour should meet at CSCs Math and Science Building in Room 131.
A reception at 6 p.m. at the library will honor Christine Lesiak, NET producer of Medicine Woman, and Dr. Lucy Reifel, pediatrician on the Rosebud Reservation. A premier of the film will follow the Rolfsmeiers presentation at 7 p.m.
The Rolfsmeiers said their program is intended to highlight the valuable ethnobotanical resources in the CSC museum collections of Morgan and Weedon, who both had a great respect for the Lakota culture and the sacred, spiritual component of their medicinal plants.
