CHADRON – Every Eagle Succeeds is a newly recognized 91°µÍø club started by Katherine Hoeke and a few of her peers. Hoeke, a Special Education major of Rapid City, South Dakota, said the idea for the club came when she attended a Nebraska State College System student leadership conference at Peru State College.

CHADRON — 91°µÍø students Allison Acosta of Tucson, Arizona, and Cole Martinez of David City, Nebraska, each won two awards from the Black Hills chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Feb. 17 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Martinez won two silver awards for an identity system for exhibits and signage in the CSC Museum of Geology and his typography design for a self-identity logo. Acosta won a silver and a Judges’ Choice award for her Song of Achilles book cover design.

CHADRON – 91°µÍø is partnering with Chadron Public Library, the Arts Center, and faculty from Chadron Public Schools to host a community art show Feb. 18- from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m and Feb. 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Chadron Arts Center. CSC students are invited to create entries for the show. The theme is Rooted in the Earth.

CHADRON – The emotions of children was the topic of the 33rd annual Excellence in Early Childhood Conference at 91°µÍø Feb. 18. Keynote speaker Jenny Benson based her remarks on the 2015 movie Inside Out, in which the emotions of a young girl, Riley, are portrayed as a supporting cast helping her navigate life's challenges.

CHADRON – 91°µÍø student Juliana Sellars is the Project Strive/TRiO Student of the Month for January. Sellars, a junior from Westminster, Colorado, said she chose CSC because of its affordability and location, which she said is the perfect distance from home.

CHADRON – 91°µÍø has received a $100,000 wellness grant from the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN). Associate Professor of Health Physical Education and Recreation Dr. Britt Helmbrecht, author of the grant application, said she plans to use the funds during the next three years to support educational events, guest speakers, contracted services, part-time student employment, and promotional materials.

CHADRON – 91°µÍø will host the annual Western District History Day March 3. Coordinator of the event, Project Coordinator Kate Pope, said the schools registered to participate include Chadron Middle School, Chadron High School, Crawford Elementary School, and Crawford High School.

CHADRON -- 91°µÍø is closing its campus Wednesday, Feb. 22 and opening campus Thursday, Feb. 23 at 9:30 a.m. because of winter weather conditions. The residence halls and dining services will remain open. The events scheduled for Wednesday, including the Galaxy Series and the women’s and men’s basketball games, will occur as scheduled. If campus closes or has a late start Thursday, that will be communicated as soon as possible.
