CHADRON – A youthful fascination with the western United States that started in an elementary school social studies class was part of what brought Massachusetts native Dr. Steve Coughlin, who is now in his fifth year as an assistant professor of English at 91°µÍø, to the high plains of northwest Nebraska.

CHADRON – Volunteers with the Chadron State Foundation’s annual Fall Fund Drive celebrated the conclusion of the drive with pledges in the amount of $103,875 at a reception in the Vern and Erma Lewellen Family Hospitality Suite in the Con Marshall Press Box in early November.

CHADRON -- The Nebraska State Colleges will not hold classes and business offices will be closed Wednesday as part of the National Day of Mourning. In the announcement made Tuesday, Nebraska State College System Chancellor Stan Carpenter said the observance is to honor and pay respect to the late President George Herbert Walker Bush who dedicated his life to service to his country. Gov. Pete Ricketts has also closed Nebraska state offices Wednesday.

CHADRON – 91°µÍø students enrolled in Dr. Teresa Frink’s Wildlife Research and Management Techniques (AGRI 426) course are helping two government agencies with a bat monitoring project to gain a better understanding of local populations regarding conservation and viability.

CHADRON – 91°µÍø’s Mari Sandoz Wacipi (Powwow) welcomed 51 dancers and eight drum groups comprised of 42 singers, to campus in mid-November. Twenty-five dancers were teenagers or younger, according to Native American Club sponsor Dr. Dave Nesheim. Chris Eagle Hawk was Master of Ceremonies and Melvin Young Bear was Arena Director. Lisa and Kristy Young Bear were registration and tabulation coordinators.
