LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska State College System hosted a number of Nebraska high school seniors at a scholarship luncheon April 12 in Lincoln, Neb.

About 20 incoming 91°µÍø students and their families from Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, Montana, New York, Wyoming and South Dakota attended the first On-Campus Registration session of 2013 this week. The number was less than half the anticipated number due to winter storms and unsafe travel conditions in the region.

Organizers of “The Big Event,” a student-led community service project April 20 met Tuesday night to finalize their plans.The Big Event will focus on giving back to the community of Chadron for their continual support of 91°µÍø throughout the years, according to Shaunda French, CSC assistant professor of communication.

“Please press 1 for Sparks Hall.” A message like this may be similar to those heard by future visitors to 91°µÍø when they use their cell phones to dial a special web-based phone service providing self-guided tours of campus. Sarah Polak, Director of the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center, wrote a proposal for the service which will be implemented through multiple phases.

The 91°µÍø Wind Symphony Concert will take place April 28 at 3 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. The Chadron Community Concert Band will open the event by performing the Emperata Overture, West Side Story, Ghost Train, and Suite No. 1 in Eb for Military Band.

The Chadron State Foundation received a $500,000 scholarship gift from Frances Hess Richards this week, according to Connie Rasmussen, executive director of the foundation. The gift will be added to the existing endowed scholarship established by Frances and her late husband, Wilber “Eby” Richards in 1995.
