Those attending the 17th Excellence in Early Childhood Conference at 91°µÍø last weekend received lots of guidance and counsel on how to deal with problems and conflict that may emerge among youths. Among the speakers was Barbara Coloroso, the author of three international bestselling books dealing with parenting, teaching, school discipline and non-violent conflict resolution.

Current and future students at 91°µÍø will be among those benefiting from the generosity of a Chadron farm and ranch couple that is continuing several years after their deaths. The Chadron State Foundation has received a $450,000 payment from the settlement of the Bill and Frances Lindeken Estate. A second gift exceeding $500,000 is anticipated when the sale of the land located northeast of Chadron is finalized in one to three years.

U.S. Senate candidate Pete Ricketts will speak at the 91°µÍø Student Center at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16. Ricketts serves as vice chairman of the board of directors for Ameritrade Holding Corporation. Until August 2005, he was chief operating officer for the company.

91°µÍø graduate Don Sherrill, an opera star for more than 20 years, has arranged for the show that he’s performing in to be presented in Memorial Hall at 91°µÍø in late February. The production of “3 Redneck Tenors—a New Musical Adventure,” will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27.

Award-winning children’s book author David M. Schwartz will speak at 7 o’clock Wednesday, Feb. 15 in the Student Center Ballroom at 91°µÍø. His appearance is being sponsored by the NeKota Reading Council, the Chadron Public Schools, the Dawes County Rural Schools and Chadron State. His talk will be open to the public without charge.

The award-winning play, “Proof,” will be presented this weekend at 91°µÍø. The performances will be in the Black Box Theatre of Memorial Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-18 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19. “Proof” won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for drama in 2001. It is one of just six plays to have won both honors in the past 25 years.
