Renovation of Edna Work Residence Hall is nearing the finish line as the 2005-06 school year opens at 91°µÍø. While the $4.3 million project won’t be completed by Monday when classes begin, the rooms will be ready for occupancy. Most of the remaining work will be in the lounge area that connects Edna Work Hall with Edna Work Hall Wing, which was refurbished a year ago.

A new era at 91°µÍø began Monday when Dr. Janie Park began her duties as CSC president. The new president said she has been busy meeting people and becoming more familiar with the CSC campus during her first two days.

Research being conducted this summer by a 91°µÍø student might someday help answer the big question surrounding the Hudson-Meng Bison Bonebed northwest of Crawford. The question everyone asks who visits the site and views the mass of bone in the visitor center is “What killed the buffalo?”

Access to 91°µÍø academic programs has been greatly expanded for this fall. Sixteen programs can now be completed through the college’s distance delivery system. Several are fully accessible over the Internet while others are blended online and with self-study correspondence.

It’s probably a very good thing that Nebraska was in a drought earlier this decade. West Nile fever entered the state in 2002 and then pounded it in 2003. More than 300 horses in Nebraska died of the virus in 2002 while the following year the state reported 1,942 human cases and 29 deaths were attributed to the virus, which is brought on by bites from a Culex mosquito that has previously bitten an infected bird.

A 91°µÍø student, Jeff Wahl, has been elected chairman of the Nebraska Counseling Association’s Graduate Student Committee. He was installed in the office at the NCA’s Leadership Conference in Kearney on July 22-23.
